In an official statement, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the peacekeeper and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to peacekeeping efforts in the Central African Republic. He also called for swift action to hold those responsible accountable.
“The Secretary-General condemns this attack in the strongest terms and extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the fallen peacekeeper and the Government of Kenya,” the statement read.

MINUSCA’s Mission & Rising Security Concerns
The MINUSCA peacekeeping force has been deployed in CAR since 2014 to support efforts in restoring peace, protecting human rights, and stabilizing the nation. However, the country continues to face challenges, with armed groups frequently targeting UN peacekeepers.
This latest attack highlights the growing threats against international forces in CAR, where peacekeepers have faced repeated violence despite efforts to maintain peace.

UN’s Call for Accountability
Following the attack, the UN reiterated its stance that targeting peacekeepers is a war crime under international law and called on the Central African Republic’s authorities to launch an immediate investigation.
“Attacks against UN peacekeepers are unacceptable and will not go unpunished,” said Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations.
The Kenyan Government has also condemned the attack and urged the international community to take stronger measures in securing peacekeeping operations.

Commitment to Global Peacekeeping Efforts
Despite security threats, the United Nations remains committed to its peacekeeping missions worldwide. MINUSCA continues to work alongside local forces to protect civilians and support long-term peace efforts in CAR.
The UN has also called for stronger international support and funding to ensure peacekeepers have the necessary resources to operate safely in high-risk areas.
